Happy Floors Mun

Happy Floors Mun Terrazzo Look Tile

Mun is Happy Floors’ terrazzo look porcelain, made in four floor sizes — 12x24, 24x24, 24x48 and 36x36, with a matching bullnose and a 2x2 mosaic in the same body. It is a matte, full-body tile carrying the scattered aggregate pattern of poured terrazzo, rated for indoor floors and walls in kitchens, bathrooms, entries, open living areas and light commercial rooms. You get the terrazzo look without pouring and grinding a real terrazzo floor.

Which size for which room

Size changes the look more than people expect with a terrazzo pattern. On a 12x24, the aggregate reads as texture. On a 36x36, you see the full scatter across the face and it reads much closer to a poured floor. If the terrazzo effect is the reason you are buying, go as large as the room and the subfloor will allow.

The matching pieces are the reason to choose it

Most terrazzo look tile is sold as a field tile and nothing else, which leaves you hunting for an edge piece and a small-format tile that nearly match. Mun has a bullnose and a 2x2 mosaic in the same body, color and finish as the floor tile. You can run the floor, turn a finished edge on a curb or step, and tile a niche or shower floor without the pattern or color shifting between pieces. If you are tiling a full bathroom, that is the practical argument for this series over a cheaper standalone tile.

Colors

White, Grey, Dark, Beige and Rust.

Shade variation across the series is high. That is what makes terrazzo read as terrazzo rather than as a printed pattern, but it also means two tiles set side by side will not match, and that is by design rather than a defect.

What to check before you order

• Floor flatness, for 24x48 and 36x36. Large tiles show lippage wherever a floor dips. Check the subfloor with a straightedge and plan on leveling before either of these sizes goes down. The 12x24 is far more forgiving if the floor is uneven.
• Dry layout. With high shade variation, pull from several boxes and lay out a section before setting anything, so similar tiles do not end up clustered together.
• Slip rating. Happy Floors does not publish a DCOF or R rating for Mun. The 2x2 mosaic has more grout joints and more grip underfoot than a large-format tile, but if you are specifying it for a shower floor or another wet area, contact our team to confirm the rating before you order. See also anti-slip floor tiles and our R11 and R12 guide.
• Grout color. A contrasting grout outlines every tile and breaks up the terrazzo effect. A grout matched to the background color of the tile lets the pattern run across the floor as one surface. Decide this with a sample board, not from the tile alone.
• Order a sample. Terrazzo photographs flatter than it looks in person, and the aggregate color shifts noticeably between warm and cool light. Use “Get Sample” on any Mun product page.

Frequently asked questions

Q) Is Mun real terrazzo?

A) No. It is porcelain made to look like terrazzo. Real terrazzo is poured and ground in place, needs sealing, and costs considerably more to install. Mun gives you the look in a tile you set with thin-set.

Q) Can Mun go on a shower floor?

A) The 2x2 mosaic is the right format for a shower floor because the grout joints give grip and the small pieces follow the slope to the drain. Happy Floors does not publish a slip rating, so confirm with our team before ordering for a wet area.

Q) Can I use Mun on walls?

A) Yes. All sizes are rated for indoor floor and wall use. The bullnose is there to finish exposed wall edges.
